The Prayer Box by Lisa Wingate

Hello fellow readers, I am sorry I been away for a while some health issues have kept me away but I am back and reading to update you on the latest of the Christian books I am reading.

I am Reviewing The Prayer Box. I really enjoyed this book I think I and so many others can relate to this struggling mother trying to repair her family and start a new. It is inspiring and full of hope and faith in God to say the least. As Tandi Jo Reese and her two children are really running from a controlling and abusive ex-husband. To hide from the past that hunts her so much, she finds some relief on Hatteras Island. She slowly tries to form a normal life again with her children as she has missed so much of their lives and her daughter is reluctant to give into the change. They move into a small cottage, and Tandi Jo steps into an unsuspecting old Victorian home where if the walls could talk I am sure they would. On the same grounds as the quaint cottage where an old ( lady Iola Ann Poole) once lived to discover a life dedicated to God and the help, love, hope, and faith she had and given to so many people and no one ever knew who Iola really was her prayer boxes open a great and riveting story that will be sure to intrigue you, . I can’t give the story away but I couldn’t put it down as God shows us so many times we can live again and put our faith in God always.

A Little Salty to Cut the Sweet BY: Sophie Hudson

I just finished the most heartwarming and equally funny Read of the summer tonight, A Little Salty To Cut The Sweet. This book is surely A Little Laughter To Cut The Serious. I love the Faith that surrounds the reader throughout this book, as you read you really come to Jesus so to speak and see what family truly means and really how much in this world of today we have severely veered off this path of “family time“. We also see how strong faith in God can carry us through anything in our lives we may encounter on life’s journeys, some sweet some not so much. I really found myself laughing out loud at allot of the chapters in this book, and then some of them really hit home for me and took me back a bit. I truly see  how time has truly run away with life’s busy schedule. I can relate allot to this family in this book, I too have been called upon many times as the support person from light bulbs to VCR timers I sympathize with you David and the Kindle fiasco was just as if my own mother was in this story. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to laugh, cry, and REMEMBER That Jesus Christ is in the driver seat of our lives, trust the road he guides you too. Also be sure to check out my review of this title at Amazon-dot-C-zero-M. As always happy reading and God Bless.

Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy By: Eric Metaxas

I just finished up with Bonhoeffer, I must say what a powerful read this was. You follow Bonhoeffer from early childhood to the day of his death. The details are gripping and at times I had a very hard time putting this book down. I was warmed by the great faith of his mother and amazed by his fathers intellectual stature, you see the true power of a loving family and great friends bound in faith throughout the entire story . You get to follow Bonhoeffer’s Stunning Journey through his decisions as a young man choosing a life in ministry. Bonhoeffer began his theological education in 1923 at the University of Tübingen, then his time abroad in America secured his destiny for fighting for his faith in Jesus Christ on his home front in ways we would think of unconventional to say the least, but he was following what God was directing him to do and not of his own heart. You feel this exceptional man of faith story-line unfold right in front of you, and at times you feel like part of the story. The compassion he had for everyone he met was just a reassuring factor that he truly cared for everyone. Bonhoeffer was sharply opposed to the anti-Semitism of the Nazis , he also wrote an article The Church and the Jewish Question which gained much criticism on his strong Christian views, and later lead to his ties in the ecumenical movement to dethrone Hitler which he paid the ultimate sacrifice. I recommend this read it is sure to delight your sense for adventure and true faith in God.

Happy, Happy, Happy: My Life and Legacy As the Duck Commander Phil Robertson

Happy, Happy, Happy: I found is a great  and inspiring read. That tells the story of Phil Robertson, his wife and family, How a man came to great faith in our Lord Jesus Christ  that forever changed his life and his family’s life well beyond his wildest expectations. Go through his journey through great struggle, heart ache and the building of his company Duck Commander and his wonderful wife of faith who has stood by him for the last 50 years. Follow along as Phil shares how Christ transformed him into the God fearing man that Phil is today and travels around the country sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I really enjoyed their story and what the entire Robertson family stands for. It is heart warming in these trying times in our world today, that a family of faith broadcasts a wonderful message that everything is possible with Jesus Christ. Also check out their show on A&E which shows their faith shining bright in each episode, Phil please don’t change the show it is wonderful Faith, Family, Ducks.

The Utter Relief of Holiness: How God’s Goodness Frees Us from Everything That Plagues Us By: John Eldredge

The Utter relief of Holiness is another wonderful work from John Eldredge, bringing his powerful insight into exactly that Holiness. How faith in Jesus Christ is your internal infrastructure to be Whole and Holy it’s a package deal, no A la Cart menu here. As I read this book filled with scripture and johns own excerpts from his own family life to help us see the bigger picture, that we long for Holiness, Goodness, Peace, Joy, and the relief that only Jesus Christ Can give us. I hope this book inspires you as it did me, happy reading and God bless.

Beautiful Outlaw: Experiencing the Playful, Disruptive, Extravagant Personality of Jesus By: John Eldredge

John Eldredge  has been one of my favorite Christian authors for a while now. One of my most recent reads was his book Beautiful Outlaw. John does a beautiful job at really getting us into the life of Jesus. I very much felt part of the story as I traveled trough history with Christ and all  of the amazing things our savior has done for us. I find this book gripping and hard to put down as I read through the life of Jesus which was not with out pain and suffering as one might think. I believe this read can really put you in touch with who Jesus Christ really is and the fact he is our Savior and Lord but also a great friend  and much more. Unlock the power of Christ in this read as John takes you on a historical journey in a way only he can with his theater background and strong public speaking abilities he really makes Beautiful outlaw jump off the page. Even thought some of the biblical scenes might have been exaggerated a bit, I think this was done to bring home some serious emphasis on key points throughout the story.

Battlefield of the Mind, Winning the Battle in Your Mind By: Joyce Meyer

I read battle field of the mind because I seem to relate to Joyce Meyer, when I read her work or watch her speak.  Might you have worry, doubt, confusion, depression, anger or condemnation in your life?, do any of these have you gripped in their ugly snare?. Joyce has us take an inventory of our feelings as she teaches us how to live with out these mind sets that seem to cripple our walk with God and hinder our lives with our families and loved ones. Joyce shares her own stories of struggle and triumph in her own family, marriage, and ministry. Joyce always brings a very powerful message in her books and this one is no exception.

Here are some points from Joyce that you will learn in this book:

  • Gain control over your mind and find freedom and peace.
  • recognize damaging thoughts and stop them from influencing your life.
  • Be patient with yourself even when you make mistakes.
  • Arm yourself with the Word of God, praise, prayer and other powerful spiritual weapons.
  • Overcome your mental “Wilderness” the bad attitudes and excuses people use that keep them from God and find undreamed of happiness and fulfillment.

The Cat That God Sent By: Jim Kraus

This book is a really fun read, its about a whimsical stray cat who finds a pastor as a his new owner. The pastor is starting a new job as a head pastor in a small backwoods country church,  him and the cat start to form a bond that  becomes unbreakable. As the story unfolds you see the life of a young man who is struggling in faith and a cat desperate to try and help rekindle the faith that has been lost. A touching story of resubmitting to Christ and the rediscovery of the love of God that was hidden inside and a faith that was once lost but now is found. The pastor was unknowingly touching the hearts of others through the entire story as God was touching his through a special cat that God sent.
